Hit The Brakes, Now!

It all begins with an idea.

You know what I’m talking about, don’t ya ? The buzzing life that’s keeping us on our toes, the ever-growing to-do list, the constant need to stay connected online, so on and so forth. When was the last time you paused and listened to your breath ? How long has it been since you felt the ground under your feet ? When did you last pause to mutter a quick 'Thank You' for all the blessings you have in your life, before asking what’s next?

If you’ve done all those and more, I can’t express how good that makes me feel knowing someone has got their priorities straight. I for one fall off the wagon constantly and need some strong reminders to put me back in place. And Thankfully, my two little ones serve as that visual reminder..

It hit me last night, while I was counting sheep lying in bed, work has become such an integral and demanding part of our lives that it sweeps us into an invisible hurricane swirl, leaving very little bandwidth to focus on what truly matters. Of course, we somehow squeeze in the hours not spent on keeping corporate systems running to take care of those who matter most to us. But are we really Present when doing that ? Do we maintain eye contact for the one minute or the one-hundredth minute when speaking with our kids without mindlessly scrolling through our phones ? Do we speak with our parents every day with the same consideration that we show in our meetings with the bunch of strangers whose last name we don’t know ? Do we express much we love, to the person we love as we did at the beginning of our beautiful relationship ?

Because these are the things that TRULY matter. Accrue all the money you want to keep you settled and secure in the ‘future’. But don’t sell off your extremely valuable Present moment for God knows what future.

There are a few things valued more than the recognitions and promotions we get at work for working harder from 7-7 instead of 9 to 5.. Our mind and body will thank us for the care it gets now, in contrast to the pill-popping we might have to do in the future to help it function. Our little one(s) will appreciate and understand the hugs we share today more than the explanation we give them, saying how much we’re slogging to keep them established later in life.

My powerhouses of Love 💕

How do we go about making small meaningful changes to our everyday life that would have a huge impact ? Firstly, no matter what, do not multitask. There was a time when I believed multitasking was a skill, a gift to cherish, but nope, it’s a bane. It might sound like a valuable attribute on our resumes, but sooner or later, everyone will realize it’s not something to be proud of. Give your focus and undivided attention to one thing, just the one thing or person, and I assure you, you will feel the positive difference it makes.

Let’s put things a little more into perspective. Assuming we are now 40 or closer to that and hoping we make it to 80 (✊ on 🪵), we roughly have 2078 weekends left. What this number means to each one of us, that’s on us. 2078, huh? 'That’s a big number, I could go around the world multiple times if I put my mind to it' could be your thought, good... Or, 'Are you kidding me? Just 2078? But I haven’t done this, seen that, been there, ate that, for all you know I haven’t even finished putting together my bucket list!' could be your train of thought. No matter which, now is a good time to start. Please hit the brakes on your speeding life, slow down, enjoy the ride, give Love, have your cake and eat it too❣️
